The STC was inspected in April, with inspectors finding that managers and staff recognise young people's individual needs and have interventions in place to properly address them.
Ofsted said one of Hassockfield's strengths was developing links with professionals outside the centre and listed a mentoring scheme for young people provided by Durham University as an example of good practice.
However, there were still areas of weakness found, including a behaviour management system that does not sufficiently reward achievements in education. Inspectors also felt a strategy to improve staffing levels to enhance the work with young people has not been delivered.
Ofsted recommended that Serco, which runs the STC, should provide training for nursing staff in mental health matters and get representatives from each of the disciplines within the centre to attend all relevant meetings where young people's needs are discussed.
