A joint inspection of Hassockfield Secure Training Centre in Durham by Ofsted, the Prisons Inspectorate and the Care Quality Commission, rated the establishment’s resettlement provision as excellent.
The other five judgment areas covering safety, behaviour, wellbeing, achievement and overall effectiveness were all judged as good.
Inspectors found that staff were dedicated to ensuring young people had somewhere suitable to live and a place in training or education when they left custody.
Initial assessments are carried out by the young person’s allocated caseworker within 24 hours of their arrival at Hassockfield and a comprehensive resettlement plan is developed prior to release.
Meanwhile “strenuous” efforts are made to get young people who lack family support assessed by their local authority to see if they are suitable for services including accommodation, when needed.
