Gold medallist stars in children's books

Early Years
Olympic gold medal winner Denise Lewis has been turned into a cartoon character in a series of books designed to encourage under-fives to take part in sport and physical activity.

In the series, entitled Fizz and Friends Come Out to Play, Lewis' character Dee Dee and her friends enjoy a number of adventures that explore issues around physical activity, movement, balance and co-ordination.

Created by the Youth Sports Trust, the £199 pack also comes with a range of activity cards, a CD and play equipment, and supports the key requirements of the new Early Years Foundation Stage.

Lewis, the Youth Sports Trust's ambassador for early years, said: "As a mum, I fully understand how important it is to get young people having fun through active play. The trust's Start to Play isn't about training children to be the next British champion - it's about encouraging them to play with their friends and family and to have an active lifestyle from a young age."
