Funding: Youth services must still report figures separately

Adonis said: "Local authorities will still be required to report their spending on youth services separately. Also, they will have a particular incentive to see that their spending is maintained in this area and that their services are enhanced."

He was speaking in the House of Lords last week in reply to a question from Lord Northbourne, who had been briefed by The National Youth Agency on its concerns over transparency in youth service spending.

He went on to refer to the duty on local authorities set out in the Education and Inspections Act to secure positive activities for teenagers.

Adonis's assurance will help quell fears that councils' commitment to youth services would become diluted in the children's services regime.
