FUNDING: Youth health centre in Bolton secures 216,000

1 min read

The Parallel health centre in Bolton has been awarded the extra cash from the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund, which has already put 500,000 into the project.

Services at the centre for 11- to 20-year-olds will include sexual, emotional, mental and general health, but will initially focus on family planning.

Centre manager Sandra Smethurst said the new money was a huge boost ahead of the opening, which has not been finalised yet but is expected to be sometime in September.

"This centre is exclusively for young people and at the moment that doesn't really exist anywhere," said Smethurst. "It was designed by young people, for young people. We hope they will feel valued and very safe here."
