The agency, based within the Ministry of Defence, has launched an awareness drive. It is urging social workers and Citizens Advice Bureaux to help identify people who could be eligible for pensions and other benefits.
In some cases, families can claim allowances for children.
Spokesman Colin Scott said one example was where vulnerable veterans had ended up in prison. "Unfortunately, we find some former service people have difficulty adjusting to civilian life once they come out and they find themselves in prison. They are the kind of people that we are trying to reach. We may be able to assist them, as well as help their families.
