They may apply for grants from two Department of Health funds worth 19.6m in total for support services and housing, which encourage independent living for HIV/Aids sufferers.
Councils with a zero, one, or two star rating should apply for their half-yearly share of the 16.5m Aids support grant for social care provision for affected patients and families by 29 July. Twenty high performing authorities will receive their allocation automatically.
The funding formula was revised in 2003/04 to give greater weight to the needs of minority groups. Children are highlighted as one such group. The changes were made to recognise the increasing pressure on HIV-affected children and families services in local authorities.
