Funding watch - The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Children's Fund

What is it? The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Children's Fund supports the children of parents who work, or have worked for, the naval service.

How much is on offer? Typical awards for each child range from £100 to around £24,000. This higher figure is usually for school fees or special educational needs support.

What will it fund? The fund will pay for a variety of support to eligible children, such as help with school equipment, special educational needs, household essentials in cases of financial hardship, private school fees, relocation costs, childcare and organising days out for families, especially when reuniting during a period of leave. It also offers support in times of crisis, such as home-help. So far in 2009, around 1,900 families have been supported through the fund.
