Funding watch - The Bankers Benevolent Fund

What is it? The Bankers Benevolent Fund provides financial assistance to past and present employers of the banking industry in the UK. It also works with the National Autistic Society to offer the Investing in Brighter Futures programme.

How much is on offer? Grants available from the Bankers Benevolent Fund include child educational support following death or unemployment because of ill health; disability support for children; and support for families hit by unexpected pressures with which they are unable to cope financially. The fund says it has a "flexible approach" to grant giving. Applications for grants above £3,000 are approved by a committee, which meets four times a year.

What will it fund? Examples include grants towards school-related expenses, as well as reasonable expenses to enable children to participate in music and sports.

Who can apply? Past and present employees of the banking industry along with their dependants.
