Funding Watch: The Noel Buxton Trust

1 min read

What is it? The Noel Buxton Trust was set up by Lord Noel Buxton in 1919 to help socially disadvantaged groups in the UK and Africa. The welfare of children and family support has been a strong focus since the trust was launched.

How much is on offer? Grants are made all year round and rarely exceed £4,000. In 2008 the average grant was £1,670. Applicants are advised that it can take around six months for a decision to be reached once an application has been submitted.

What will it fund? The trust's main areas of funding are the welfare of disadvantaged children and those in care, the welfare of prisoners and young offenders and sustainable development in east and southern Africa. Most grants for disadvantaged children focus on those of primary school age and younger. Recent beneficiaries have been the Aberdeen-based charity Befriend A Child, which received £1,000 for its volunteer befriending scheme. Another was the Bangladesh Community Trust, which received £500 for a summer holiday project for children in Aston.
