What is it? The Torch Trophy Trust was founded in 1962 by the organiser of the Olympic torch relay from Greece to London in 1948. It was set up to encourage voluntary work in sport, and it provides small bursaries for sports volunteers throughout the UK. This includes those involved in youth sport and sport for the disabled, and funds are available for helping voluntary workers at club level.
How much is on offer? A limited number of grants are available each year, ranging from £100 to £1,000. Funds aren't usually awarded for more than 50 per cent of a project's total costs, but the bursary states that exceptional applications may be considered for grants outside these guidelines.
