What is it? The Evening Standard, the London daily newspaper, has launched the Dispossessed Fund to help impoverished children and families in the capital. Members of the public can donate to the fund and donations will then be matched by the government's Grassroots Grants programme. The fund will assist small charities and voluntary groups that lift people out of poverty.
How much is on offer? The fund is aiming to raise £1m. Grants of between £250 and £5,000 are on offer to voluntary and community groups working to tackle the causes of poverty in London. Information about how to apply for larger grants will be available from October 2010.
