FUNDING: Warrington ponders youth budget cuts

Warrington is undertaking a council-wide cost monitoring process, but councillors are undecided whether to cut the local youth services budget as part of this. Nick Cooper, head of Warrington's Youth Service, said: "There are issues outstanding."

If a local authority reduces its youth services budget, it loses any additional funding it is entitled to under the Transforming Youth Work initiative.

The Department for Education and Skills confirmed that authorities cutting youth services would lose funding to an alternative local provider.
