Regeneration: Warrington project re-engages pupils

A group of up to 30 young people from a local secondary school have been clearing allotments to turn them into useful plots. The scheme, Victoria Park Young People's New Routes Allotment Project, aims to help 11- to 18-year-olds who are not fitting in at school to give something back to the community.

In the second phase of the project, young people will grow plants, fruit and vegetables, to be sold for a small profit. The money will be fed back into the programme.

Nick Cooper, head of youth and community development at the council, said the project teaches useful skills.
