But the climate of financial uncertainty has caused the fund to review last Friday's (18 July) deadline for awards totalling 20,000 intended to support positive community relations in multicultural inner-city areas.
The Diana fund had invited refugee community associations in London, Liverpool and Glasgow to nominate secondary schools for five Focus on Potential awards. These recognise schools that had made extra efforts to welcome refugees into the community. Earlier this year, awards were made to three London secondary schools in Camden, Harrow and Southall.
A spokeswoman for the fund said: "To be recognised by an award bearing Diana's name is a great asset for raising awareness and talking about refugees. Pupils are seen to have directly contributed something that benefits the whole school."
