Full of bounce: Children take to space hoppers in the name of risky play

Children tried their hand at space-hopper football at a Playday event in Gateshead last week.

The game was one of a series of "risky play" activities organised for a Playday event at Blaydon Comprehensive School. More than 600 children took part in activities in the borough on the day. Labour councillor Catherine Donovan, Gateshead's lead member for children's services, said: "The event provided a great opportunity to play and have fun. But the underlying message is children need opportunities to try new things and learn how to manage risk."
