Foot power: Parents urged to ditch the car and walk children toschool

Labour councillor Graham Morgan joins children from Nine Tree Primary in Knowsley on their way to school in a bid to encourage more parents to ditch their cars and let their offspring walk to school. The Merseyside council is trying to reduce the number of cars on the school run as part of National Walk to School Month, which takes place throughout October. "We're asking parents to try walking with their children to school," said Morgan. "That little bit of extra exercise each day can make a suprising difference to both the parent's and the child's health and fitness. Andwith less vehicles arrivingat the school gates, schools will become a morepleasant and safer environment for everybody."
