Pedometer power: Pupils mark Walk to School Week

Neasden schoolchildren, Abdul Akeem Oseni and Shaquille Mcgeachy, show off the pedometers they used during Walk to School Week. They used the devices to find out the distance they covered when walking to and from school during the week. A total of 36 schools in the London Borough of Brent, which includes Neasden, took part in the activities to mark the national week.

Activities included mass walks in playgrounds during breaks, freebreakfast for pupils who walked to school and the handing out of Walk toSchool Week stickers and bookmarks. Deborah Bonner, a school travel planco-ordinator at the borough, said: "This initiative is all about tryingto change the way pupils and their parents travel."
