Families: Number of Black lone parents falls

The disproportionately high number of Black one-parent families is falling, despite a steep rise in lone parents overall.

The Office for National Statistics found the proportion of UK childrenliving in single parent families has trebled since 1972. Almost one infour children now live with one parent.

In Black Caribbean and other Black families, the Study of Social Trendsfound half of families are headed by a lone parent.

Among groups where it was less common for families to be headed by asingle parent, the proportion rose slightly.
