Single Parents: Charities merge to strengthen efforts

Two leading charities representing lone parents are to merge. One Parent Families and Gingerbread intend to merge in May in a bid to strengthen their respective efforts to support single parent families.

One Parent Families' chief executive Chris Pond, who will head the newcharity, said the merger would give lone parents "a louder, unifiedvoice". He said One Parent Families' policy and advice line activitieswould complement Gingerbread's national network of single parentgroups.

Jolyon Maugham, the chair of Gingerbread, said: "The merger will be ofenormous benefit to lone parents giving them a stronger voice and bettersupport."

A name for the new charity has yet to be decided.
