Lone parents' body develops strategy

Social Care
One Parent Families-Ginger-bread is developing a pilot project to overcome single parents' increasing unwillingness to run local self-help groups.

The charity's head of policy and research, Kate Bell, said the Bridging the Gap project would train organisations working with families to run self-help groups for lone parents.

"People are less willing to run self-help groups than in the past, so this project will enable professionals to set up lone parent support groups," she said.

The charity says local self-help groups help lone parents access other services.

The Bridging the Gap project will be based around a two-day training course and an information pack advising services on how to support lone parent families. The project will also provide ongoing support to those who take part in the training.
