Faith: Bradford charity to help disadvantaged

Emerge will work with 13- to 30-year-olds in the Tyersal and Laisterdyke areas of Bradford, earmarked for European Objective 2 regeneration, using sports and coaching programmes to help young people into training and employment.

Until last year, Emerge was part of the Vine Trust of St Mary's of Laisterdyke.

The Vine Trust received a 43,000 development grant from Connexions West Yorkshire to set up a separate youth charity.

Emerge has now moved to a dedicated centre for young people, which will officially open on 13 May. Its turnover in 2005 will be about 400,000 from more than 20 different funding streams.
