FAITH BASED: Hindu Youth UK established to promote unity among groups

Events include an educators' conference in October and a two-day conference in Leicester for teenagers. Hindu Youth UK will also carry out consultations with young Hindus.

Kailash Parekh, a Hindu Youth UK co-ordinator in Preston, said: "This is a UK-wide initiative that includes all the different religious sects in Hinduism.

Our strategy is to bring Hindu youth together to learn their culture and identity. Young people are the future of the religion and we want to tackle issues such as peer pressure."

Shaunaka Rishi Das, director of the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies, and a member of the committee, said: "We want Hindu Youth UK to become a charitable funding organisation for young Hindus to carry out community projects."
