"Hindus are often viewed as a bit freakish by the public, who don't understand our customs," says 25-year-old Bhavit Mehta, a member of Hindu Youth UK's 12-strong committee. "We want to become a focal point for the Government and the media to access information on Hindus, especially young people."
Hindu Youth UK, which has been in existence for around two years, has recently formalised itself into an official organisation, and is now applying for charitable status (YPN, 20-26 August, p4). Events are planned to promote unity among Hindu youth groups and to raise awareness of Hindus, including an educators' conference in October.
