The foundation degree will start in September next year. Students will be encouraged to extend it to a three-year honours degree in Muslim youth work. An open day is planned for 14 October.
The university's Department of Theology and Religious Studies already has a Christian youth work degree programme. The Muslim one has been pioneered by the department's Professor Ron Greaves, an authority on Muslim communities in Britain. It has support from organisations including the Lancashire Council of Mosques.
The course incorporates the core elements of a standard youth work degree as well as modules including the study of Muslim communities in Britain.
Visiting lecturer Sadek Hamid, who has helped develop the programme, said: "The whole political climate at the moment makes this course good timing."
The university department is looking for a lecturer to develop and market the course on a part-time basis until next July.
