Exercise: Fund set to boost after-hours sports

Out-of-school sports activities in England are to get a 34m boost from the Big Lottery Fund, it was announced today.

More than 28m will go towards extending the school sports co-ordinators scheme, which encourages schools to work with different partners to develop sports activities outside school hours.

The final chunk of the scheme's initial 25.5m funding has been allocated with 5.8m to be shared by more than 60 projects.

A physical activity programme for teenage mothers and their children is just one of the projects that will be developed by Leicester City Council after it was awarded more than 113,000.

- National youth charity Weston Spirit is staging a one-day conference in London on 15 July on how to get the best out of the Big Lottery Fund.
