Directors of children's services have revealed that health professionalsare not contributing to the Common Assessment Framework and are optingout of children's trusts because of financial pressures on primary caretrusts. There is also concern that health professionals are no longerfully involved in the development of children's centres.
Last month, Children Now reported that funding cuts had begun to hitfrontline children's services (5-11 April). But the latest revelationsmean the debt crisis engulfing the NHS is having far more profoundimplications for the wider children's agenda than was firstenvisaged.
Peter Traves, director of children's services at Staffordshire council'said his attempts to integrate services were being undermined on anumber of fronts.
