Employment: Moped hire project begins in Scotland

1 min read

Sheila White, the project's coordinator, said: "East Ayrshire is a large and very rural area with really poor public transport, so we felt this project would help young people to access work, training and education more easily."

The project is run by Coalfield Community Transport and will start with a six-month pilot using 10 mopeds.

The first interviews with young people who have been referred to the project took place last week and White said she expected the first bikes to be given out in late July.

The scheme is funded by 20,000 from the Scottish Executive and Coalfield Community Transport.
