Emotional support: Bridgend workers assist in schools

Staff from Bridgend youth service are providing emotional support to school pupils following a spate of suicides in the area.

The youth service is running workshops at local comprehensive schools to make young people more aware about the advice and information services available locally.

Sixteen-year-old Jenna Parry became the 17th suspected case of suicide in South Wales in just over a year when her body was found in woods near her home on 19 February.

Bridgend Local Services Board, which brings together a range of public services in the region, is coordinating the workshops and counselling services.

Jo Farrar, chair of Bridgend Local Services Board, said: "Our message is simple: whatever the problem is, don't keep it to yourself. Sharing your concerns will help to put things in a different light."
