The Chancellor has already floated plans to create an independentcommission to manage the NHS. Now, he is also understood to be keen toset up an education commission that would manage school spending.
But Paul Ennals, chief executive of the National Children's Bureau, saidthe commission would be a backwards step unless it incorporated thechildren's sector's joined-up approach.
He said: "An independent commission would need to be driven by EveryChild Matters. It would have to take into account the new joined-upapproaches to children's services where schools are a key deliveryagent."
However, he said an independent approach that ensured policy decisionswere taken on a long-term and strategic basis would be beneficial.
