Education News: Wales - Initiative improves fitness awareness

The Welsh Assembly Government's Physical Education and School Sports initiative is improving children's understanding of the importance of exercise, says a report by education inspectors Estyn.

"Head teachers of primary schools included in the initiative areinvariably very positive about the value of physical education to thehealth and wellbeing of their pupils," said the report.

The initiative was launched four years ago to identify and strengthengood practice in physical education and school sport.

Susan Lewis, chief inspector for education and training in Wales, saidteachers were enthusiastic about the impact of the initiative on pupils'behaviour and attitude to work.
