Education News: Transport - Walking to school to become easier

Walking and cycling to school is set to become easier for children after the Government announced 10m to support safer routes alongside the School Transport Bill, which was presented to Parliament last week.

The Department for Transport announced the 10m grant to the sustainable transport charity Sustrans, which will oversee the extension of the national cycle network to develop hundreds of safe walking and cycling routes to schools.

The Bill will also enable 20 local authorities to introduce new schemes to tackle congestion, with up to 200,000 of Government funding to kick-start each scheme.
