The Bill backs a freer use of "reasonable force" but the Conservativeshadow education minister Baroness Buscombe, who spoke on the amendment'said that teachers in mainstream schools are not equipped to deal withthis, placing children at risk of being mishandled.
But junior schools minister Lord Andrew Adonis said that the guidanceand law was felt to be adequate, although the Government will bereviewing it with voluntary sector partners.
A spokesman for the autism charity TreeHouse said he feared that withoutthe amendment there would be a detrimental effect on children withautism and other special educational needs.
