Schools standards minister David Miliband last week announced a further 30m of funding for 2007/08, which he is hoping will enable every primary school pupil to learn a musical instrument.
Marc Jaffrey, a music project executive for the BBC, was revealed as the Government's music champion.
But Peter Garden, head of programmes at the charity 4Children, said: "We believe the Government's commitment to music education can be pushed even further with the integration of music education into out-of-school centres."
Miliband and Jaffrey joined children at Wendell Primary School in West London for the announcement.
