Sir Cyril Taylor, chairman of the Specialist Schools and AcademiesTrust, said looked-after children would benefit from the stabilityboarding schools offer and that it would save money.
He told delegates at the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust annualconference: "I ask for specialist schools with the land available toconsider applying to provide boarding provision. Even with the runningcosts of 7,000 per year per child, the cost would be dramaticallyless than in a residential home."
The education white paper states that the Government will work withlocal authorities to identify children who would benefit from boarding,but this is the first time that schools have been urged to take actionthemselves.
