Junior schools minister Lord Andrew Adonis last week revealed that theGovernment is likely to include the measure in the looked-after childrengreen paper. He also said the Government was in talks with state andprivate boarding schools.
A Department for Education and Skills spokesman said that boardingschools would not be appropriate in every case, but "even if only a fewhundred children a year might benefit, it is still worth doing".
Organisations including The Who Cares? Trust have given the proposals aguarded welcome. But the Labour Party-affiliated Socialist EducationalAssociation said that private boarding schools should not beinvolved.
Malcolm Horne, the association's general secretary, said: "We aretotally opposed to sending them to private boarding schools. We do notbelieve we should be propping up private boarding schools in thisway."
