Education News: Grammar schools - Partnerships may help stateschools

Grammar schools should team up with failing state schools, a Government adviser told Parliament's Education and Skills Select Committee last week.

Sir Cyril Taylor, chair of the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust'said he would not want to close grammar schools, but they should do moreto help children from poor families.

Taylor's comments came as the Conservative Party's row over grammarschools and selection rumbled on. Last week shadow education secretaryDavid Willetts said he wanted to make it easier for specialist schoolsto select pupils.
