In a speech to the Confederation of British Industry last week, Willettssaid: "There is overwhelming evidence that such academic selectionentrenches advantage, it does not spread it."
Where grammar schools exist there would be no changes, he said. Butwhere grammars have disappeared, Willetts said technology colleges andcity academies were the way forward. Willetts signalled that aConservative Government would expand Labour's academy schools programme.
