Education News: Joint working - Co-operation duty is not way forward

Placing a legal duty on schools to co-operate with other children's services would "not make very much difference about what they did or did not do", the chief inspector of schools has said.

David Bell told an education and skills committee meeting on the work of Ofsted that the best schools would "collaborate or encourage collaboration and co-operation".

He said it was "slightly unfortunate" that there had been the impression that schools were "hostile to collaboration". He added: "A lot of schools would say they see some virtues in moving forward in this way, because it would help them to tie up the services they need to provide."
