Education News: Hard-to-reach pupils - Bus takes advice to youngpeople

A mobile outreach bus that travels the streets after dark to target hard-to-reach young people has launched in Birmingham.

The Beyond Midnight bus, which offers health and careers advice andtraining programmes, is aimed at young people at risk of dropping out ofeducation.

Conservative councillor Les Lawrence, cabinet member for children, youngpeople and families, said: "This is one of the most innovative youthschemes in the country, and the resources are also available for otherprojects to utilise."

Birmingham Youth Service, the West Midlands Police and the HealthAuthority are among the organisations involved in the scheme, and youngpeople designed the bus.
