The government agency responsible for promoting extended schools toldChildren Now that close to 5,000 schools will undergo training thisyear.
There are around 25,000 schools in total across England.
The Training and Development Agency said that the figure wassignificantly higher than it had anticipated and claimed that itdemonstrated a widespread enthusiasm among schools for the newagenda.
"As of today we have a figure of 4,950 schools who will be engaged thisyear on the workshop programme on developing extended services," said aspokeswoman for the Training and Development Agency. "We had a target ofat least 2,500 schools so it is a very encouraging that we have exceededthis. It is an indication of the willingness and enthusiasm of schoolsto get started on this agenda. There is a real enthusiasm to get engagednow and the workshop programme is the key method of doing that."
