Education News: Extended schools - Head condemns training opt-out

A respected head of an extended school has said that new heads should not be able to opt-out of relevant training.

Bill Jordan, head of Dyke House School in Hartlepool, was reacting to the news that the National Professional Qualification for Headship will include a non-compulsory module on leading extended schools (Children Now, 25-31 May).

He said: "Why aren't extended schools in there as a must-have module? It makes sense because in the next few years extended schools will be part and parcel of what the job's about. I think all new heads should have to take it."
