Education News: City Academies - More work needed to tackle bullying

Tackling bullying and improving special educational needs teaching are two keys areas where the Government's academies need to improve.

A government-backed evaluation has said that academies have largely won the support of pupils and parents but many significant challenges still remain.

There is "a recognition among staff and pupils that bullying remains a significant problem in some academies".

And there are concerns among a "significant minority" of teachers and parents about the "adequacy of the approaches being adopted in relation to teaching pupils with special educational needs".

Meanwhile, private education company Global Education Management Systems has pulled out of a 4m scheme to sponsor two city academies in Milton Keynes.
