Education News: Admissions - Ombudsman slams school's criteria

The admissions criteria at a London school have been criticised by the Local Government Ombudsman as some of the most flawed he has ever seen.

Lady Margaret School in Parsons Green used procedures so faulty it wasimpossible to tell how many places had been allocated. And the bandingsystem gave too many places to girls scoring highly in admissions testsat the expense of less able children. The ombudsman said many of theprocedures would be forbidden by the new code of practice onadmissions.

The school is carrying out a review of its procedures.
