
Ombudsman Dr Jane Martin found flaws in the way an independent appeals panel of the London Oratory School in Fulham dealt with the appeal of the boy who had been refused a place at the school.
She found that the appeal panel failed to take into account the parents’ reasons for wanting their son to attend the school and instead based its decision on the fact that he did not meet the faith criteria.
Reaching her finding of maladministration causing injustice, Martin said: "A school must provide parents with its case for opposing the appeal, in order to satisfy the code. The parents do not have to ask for it."
