I would introduce more selective state schools into the education system. It is clear from the few remaining grammar schools that at GCSE and A-Level, selective state schools far outperform their non-selective counterparts.

Whether it be the fact that bright students being around bright students constitutes better results or whether bright children perform better in more stable environments is still very much the unknown.

This could be because the brightest students are all channelled into the grammar school and those that don't pass the entrance exam end up in a school where every student is below par in terms of ability. The other side of the argument is that schools that follow more vocational courses can better serve those that don't meet the standard required for entry to grammar school. Those that meet the standard for grammar school can, therefore, be better catered for on more academic courses.
