The Fulham project is of a type often ignored when youth policy comes under the microscope (not by YPN; see 1-7 February, p15), so there was much excitement among young people and youth workers waiting for the VIPs to arrive - although when I later asked one young person if he enjoyed the morning he laconically replied that I was the umpteenth person to have asked him and couldn't we think of a better question...
Gordon Brown's presence was another sign of the Government's stated commitment to the sector, following pre-Budget report announcements in December about the Youth Opportunity Fund and the diversion of unclaimed assets in banks to youth services, and Tony Blair highlighting the importance of youth services in a Labour Party conference speech last September.
