These figures will rise significantly by this Friday's consultation deadline day. Hughes says young people are "very positive" about the green paper and emphasises that the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) will take their views into account.
It would be churlish not to recognise that youth work and provision for young people is in the spotlight and being given serious attention by senior politicians, including the Prime Minister.
It was also encouraging to hear Ed Miliband, the new chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Youth Affairs, asking Hughes what would be done to ensure there is a proper "supply-side" investment in youth services to run alongside the "demand-side subsidies" envisaged via initiatives such as opportunity cards.
