Opinion: Editorial - The sector is preparing to turn a corner

The year 2005 was significant for the sector in numerous ways. The youth green paper finally appeared. The Russell Commission released its groundbreaking report on youth volunteering. And the white paper that resulted from the Tomlinson review of 14-19 education also saw the light of day.

The consultation responses to Youth Matters are now in and the Department for Education and Skills is preparing to pilot various strands of work that will deliver the new proposals.

Fourteen local authorities have been identified to run multi-agency targeted youth support team pilots and are preparing to start work from next April (YPN, 16-22 November, p2).
