Editorial: Youth policy agenda moves to next level

The agenda has moved on to concentrate on lobbying for the 2007 Comprehensive Spending Review and associated youth sector reviews set in motion by Chancellor Gordon Brown in the Budget this year (YPN, 29 March-4 April, p2). Provision for young people will be one of three focal points for Brown as he prepares for his planned accession to the top job next year.

The Treasury launched its policy review of children and young people's services two weeks ago (YPN, 12-18 July, p4). The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) is preparing to lobby for resources in next year's spending review. The Cabinet Office is also undertaking a review of the voluntary sector.
